Transition Towns and Powerdown
Community Responses to Climate and Energy Uncertainty

The Transition Towns process aims to empower communities to reduce carbon emissions while at the same time building local resilience. There are currently 600 towns, villages and even cities embarking on the process aroiund the world. Here in Ireland a new network has been established to inspire and support Iirsh communities to adopt the process. In this presentation Davie Philip will introduce the principles behind the Transition movement with some case studies from Ireland.

Rebuilding local agriculture and food production, localising energy production, rethinking healthcare, rediscovering local building materials in the context of zero energy building, rethinking how we manage waste, all build resilience and offer the potential of an extraordinary renaissance – economic, cultural and spiritual. “
